National Maintenance Agreement Saskatchewan

As noted above, these agreements were renewed in December 2015. It was only recently that I was informed that these negotiations had been concluded for both the NMA and the GPMA. The NMA has been reversed and all conditions remain unchanged for at least one year. With regard to the GPMA, a number of amendments have been made and come into force on 3 April 2016. Most of the changes relate to transfers, earned days off, local resident status and timely payment. These amendments involve members of Syncrude, Suncor, Surmont, Kearl Lake, McKay River, Dow Fort Saskatchewan, Dow Prentiss, Shell Scotford, Strathcona IOL, Fire Bag, Shell Chemicals, Shell Albian Sands and CNRL. As you all know, Alberta`s economic situation has changed in recent years. Fortunately for Local 110, we were able to maintain a significant percentage of our members in industrial maintenance. Long-term partners such as Syncrude, Suncor, Shell Scotford and Dow Fort Saskatchewan have helped this location through slow weather and, in recent years, new customers such as Kearl Lake IOL, Surmont, Strathcona IOL and Dow Prentiss have been included in our maintenance portfolio, creating more employment opportunities for 110 local members.

Collective agreements are the backbone of all long-term union care centres. All maintenance work currently performed via Local 110 is carried out in accordance with the terms of the General Presidents (GPMA) maintenance contract or the National Maintenance Agreement for Alberta (NMA). In the past, these agreements have given Local members 110 high-end working conditions and salaries, while providing the client with highly qualified and certified professionals and relative work stability in all occupations.
